Cuostralee Tomato

This red beefy beefsteak has an interesting path to the United States.  It is most commonly known to have been routed "back" to the US in the early 1990's through Seed Savers Exchange via France.  Most seed companies list this as a French heirloom and a few list it as an Italian heirloom. 

Regardless, it is a heirloom beefsteak that should be in everyone's garden.  Slicing, sauce and salads, it works in everything.  It is a slow indeterminate grower, so make sure you have plenty of time for it to set fruit and ripen.  We had no issues in the northern part of Arizona when starts were transplanted after the first frost.  Our largest one this year weighed in at 1 lb., 5 oz.  This tomato was on the thirstier side and needed more water than more arid tolerant varieties.  0.2 grams.
