Growing up in Colorado and having a special affinity to the southern part of the state, this melon was a no-brainer to grow on the farm. Bred and selected by the talented Pueblo Seed and Food Company, this melon is named after the Huerfano River. It is a orange sweet honeydew type, a fresh eating type and don't plan to store it for long periods.
For anyone interested, Huerfano means "Orphan" and the geographical area was named for a single volcanic cone/butte that stands alone in a open range - the Huerfano or Orphan. Half the fun is learning to say it correctly - Hoo-where-fan-oh (said really fast with emphasis on the first two syllables coming from your chest). It was college tradition to yell Huerfano out the window while driving past the butte on I-25. No we don't know why we did that but can anyone say that about college. 0.5 grams (~20 seeds)
