We snagged the seed for this variety from the Experimental Farm Network (EFN) in hopes of introducing more unique arid tolerant tomatoes to the Southwest. In our 2025 grow out, this variety has exceeded our expectations. The original variety is from Iran and was collecting in 1940. EFN has the entire story of how this 1940's Iranian tomato made it to the U.S. federal seedbank, so check out their website for the story.
This was an indeterminate salad tomato that has uniquely ruffled or fluted fruits. The fruits averaged between 1 and 1.5 inches in diameter and 0.75 inches tall. This is considered a landrace variety so fruits will vary in size and shape.
What we liked about this variety was the production (buckets and buckets), the disease and insect tolerance, the long length of time it produced and the old fashioned tomato taste. There was only minor issues with fruit cracking during the monsoon flooding we had, but it didn't affect the taste. Once the soils dried out, the cracking went away. Farm top 10 for 2025. 0.2 grams.
