Les Oreilles du Diable Deer Tongue Lettuce

We love a good slow bolting lettuce on the farm, and this variety is much slower than some of our other "slow bolting".  We also like deer tongue lettuces (triangular leaves) to add a little something extra to our salad mixes.  

As the name suggests, it is a french variety brought to the U.S. by the Abundant Life Seed Foundation and has been stewarded by small seed companies since.  The leaves are green and bronze pointed oak leaf shapes.  The flavor is said to be nutty and we found it a nice compliment to sweeter lettuces in a mix.  

It is heat tolerant (not Arizona full summer sun - more like Arizona full spring sun) and was less water needy than some other lettuce varieties.  This variety is best for early high elevation Arizona summers with afternoon shade. 0.3 grams (~150 seeds)
