The farm's original seed source was Native Seed/SEARCH and we wanted to try this variety out since it is an arid higher elevation variety.
The description from Native Seed/Search is: Rarámuri Bakámina (Tarahumara Bakámina). A rare, disappearing variety. Semi-pole plants produce tiny, burgundy, kidney-shaped seeds with a black ring around the hilum. Occasional solid black and speckled beans. Pods are quite long and make excellent green beans.
These grew well and are very arid tolerant to the point of struggling when accidentally overwatered. They are bush sized with runners or semi-pole, and could have benefited from a short trellis for the runners. The dried beans are diverse in size and color, but most are a small kidney shape. 7 grams.
50% of all sales will go back to Native Seed/SEARCH to further their mission in the conservation of arid adapted and traditional food and fiber plants.
