The Provider Bean is a 1960's release from Dr. Hoffman at Clemson University. It is a bush bean that was bred for early maturity and reliability, and has become a well known addition to many gardens and market farms. The green pod is good for fresh eating, freezing and canning, and the dried bean can be cooked as a normal dried bean.
The plants grow no more than 1.5 feet tall (most were around 1 foot tall) and were loaded with pods at around 50 days. There were no issues noted from insect or disease. Water needs were low to moderate on a low pressure drip irrigation system, and the blazing Arizona sun caused a bit of leaf sunburn - but not enough to affect the plant or the harvest.
