Shishito Pepper

Is it going to be spicy?  Will it be sweet?  Will it be both? Its a never ending game with Shishito Peppers (at least the strain we have on farm, originally from Seed Savers Exchange).  This Japanese variety is best know on farm as an appetizer served green and slightly charred. Rumor has it that they are good when ripe and colorful - but they don't usually make it that far.

The fruits can grow up to 3 inches long (ours were usually around 2.5 inches) and are wrinkly.  The fruit walls are very thin and if not kept adequately watered, they can collapse.  We rate these very low on drought tolerance but very high on the yummy scale.  They were also very slow to germinate and put on growth.  We will grow these again, and plan for a full season in a routinely irrigated part of the farm. 0.2 grams (~40 seeds)
