Traveler Jalapeno

This variety caught our eye in the Seed Saver Exchange Catalog because of its name and because we were looking for a heirloom alternative to the standard hybrid jalapeno.  We grew it in 2025 and were impressed by its hardiness.  It was left to fend for itself in a thicket of weeds and showed no ill effects.  In fact it produced 2 inch green (ripening to red) fruits until frost took it out.  It is was not a fast variety and it took the entire season to produce.  However, the flavor was quintessential jalapeno.  The fruit walls are thick which means great for salsa or stuffing.  It is a hot variety and may need gloves worn while processing.

For its story, it was donated to Seed Savers Exchange by a Missouri man who carried them through multiple states as he moved around.  Hence the "Jalapeno (Traveler Strain)" or its nickname (Traveler Jalapeno).  Mr. Larry Pierce spent 20 years selectively breeding the strain to its current form.  0.3 grams (~40 seeds)
